About the register

Built to make India's PIN system easy to search — and easy to understand.

Bharat Pincode started from a simple frustration: most PIN code lookups return a bare number with no context, and finding the right Sub Office or Branch Office for a form means digging through scattered PDFs.

What we built

Bharat Pincode is an independent reference site covering every published PIN code in India — 19,586 codes and 1,65,627 individual post offices, spanning all 36 states and union territories. Each entry carries the office name, its type (Head Office, Sub Office, Branch Office, or Extension Counter), the district, and the state, so you can confirm you have the right office, not just the right number.

Alongside the search tool, we run a blog that goes into the history and mechanics of the PIN system itself — why it was introduced, how the digits are structured, and the everyday quirks (like Army Post Office codes) that trip people up.

How we keep the register accurate

Our data is compiled from published postal circle records and reviewed for obvious errors and gaps before publishing. Postal jurisdictions do change over time — offices merge, PINs get reassigned — so we recommend treating this as a fast reference, and confirming anything delivery- or legal-critical with your local post office.
